ASUU Strike: Gunshots As Soldiers Disperse Protesting Ondo Students

Men of the Nigerian Army have allegedly stormed the scene where students were protesting in Akure, Ondo State on Tuesday.

The students had gone out for a second-day protest in the state over the lingering strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Videos obtained by our correspondent had shown soldiers marching in their numbers with their guns, alongside a van being driven after them. Sporadic gunshots were heard as they moved while some of the students ran in panic.

The students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, in Akure, had, alongside, counterparts from neighboring states, barricaded major highways, including the Benin-Ore Express road while they protested.

Sources told our correspondent that as of yesterday, the police and soldiers came to the protest scene, but today, they had come with violence as they started to disperse the students and disrupt other things.

“What happened in Lekki is happening again in Ondo!” One of the protesters had screamed in another video which showed that the instruments of the protests being used by the students had been scattered.

“They’re killing us,” another person said.

The PUNCH reported that last week, in Ibadan, men of the Nigerian army had also attempted to run over protesting students around the University of Ibadan. This was condemned in a statement by the ASUU, Lagos zone.

For over a week, students had protested across Nigeria over the ASUU strike, calling on the Federal Government to accede to the demands of the striking lecturers.

The PUNCH reports that the ASUU strike, which began on February 14, has entered 92 days.

National Association of Nigeria Students under the leadership of Comrade Asefon Sunday today terminate the appointment of Comrade Akeredolu Olanrewaju who was once appointed as the Director International Relations (United Kingdom) by the revolutionary President of NANS, the termination was due to his recent uncalled for student union activities

We could recall that Comrade Akeredolu posted on his Facebook page that  Babajide Akeredolu is not the true son of Ondo State governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu that he needs a DNA test to confirm the true status.

NAOSS ELECTION: I'm Ready to Contribute, Maintain, Develop and Rejuvenate the Interest of NAOSSITES, Mary Ogunga (Official Declaration)

There comes a moment in the life of a society when every patriot must stand up to be counted! At such a moment, no person worthy of a place in history can afford to remain settled in their comfort zone. These times are marked by rapid tumbling of our core values. These are times in our society when a decision has become imperative for us to make for the betterment of our dear ASSOCIATION. For our dear, NAOSS, the moment is now!

Dear Naossites, esteemed members of our dear association, National Association of Ondo State I come bearing greetings to each and sundry. I am Mary Ogunga, a student of the prestigious Faculty of Law, Adekunle Ajasin University, a humble member of the National Association of Ondo State Students’. I come to you in all calmness and humility of heart as I take the bold steps to openly and officially, without doubt or skepticism DECLARE my intention to vie for the office of the PRESIDENT, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ONDO STATE STUDENTS’

This decision is based on an undoubtable desire to not only CONTRIBUTE, but MAINTAIN, DEVELOPE and REJUVENATE the interest, collectively, of all NAOSSITES.

As a then student of the Department of English and Literature, University of Benin and similarly as an undergraduate law student in the Faculty of Law, Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, I have been afforded the opportunity to gain considerable and valuable all round experience in certain positions and situations. Such positions include;

Being elected as the General Secretary, National Association of Ilaje Students, University of Benin/University of Benin Teaching Hospital Chapter, 2018 where I effectively carried out my duties as required of me.

After serving at the Local Chapter, I equally took a leap to the National Body in a bid to further contribute my quota and was elected as the Vice President, National Association of Ilaje Students 2018/19 where my records as the Vice President are still speaking for themselves.

Being named as MISS NAIS UNIBEN 2017/18 as part of my quest for in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Social structure in the noble society.

Being elected Director of Socials, Department of English and Literature, University of Benin, 2017/2018.

In a bid to further develop and contribute, I was elected as the Financial Secretary of our dear Association, 2019/2021 where I effortlessly serve the Association.

Similarly, in my resolve to ensure DISCOVERY, NURTURING AND INNOVATE, I took bold steps to join the Female Law Forum, AAUA where I am presently serving as the Treasurer and Council of Youth Female Leadership where I served as the Treasurer of the Council.

As part of my plans for vying for this Office, it is expedient that i must mention that Academics of our student shall be of outmost importance to us. It is important to state that the Political objective for the Association is EDUCATION FOR LIBERATION Our plans cut across a well-defined system to ensure smooth running and effective participation in competitions, Career Advancement programs and seminars amongst others.

It is said that welfarism of the members of any Association is its main purpose for existence, and this is rightly provided for Section 8(1)(b) of the NAOSS Constitution. We shall continue to ensure the betterment and welfarism of all NAOSSITES via the prompt payment of bursaries when due amongst others

While we recognize that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, we have carefully mapped a social activity plan for NAOSS which is not limited to the NAOSS

We are equally working on provision of a better sporting facility system and igniting the spirit of sportsmanship amongst our students. As a lover of sport and one who was an active member of the Chess Club University of Benin, I am not oblivious of the great role sport plays in every Association

Ensuring a smooth and cordial relationship with the Government of Ondo State to provide a ground for better understanding between our students.

These, among others have buoyed and fortified my sense and desire for service to ORGANISE, DISCOVER and LEAD by example, which have in turn acted as a catalyst for my ambition to run for the post of President of our dear Association.

I must with all sense of commitment and purpose, state that if I am elected as the President of NAOSS, I will to the best of my ability;

-Lead without segregation, partiality, favoritism.

-Protect the interest of every NAOSSITES both home and in diaspora as one equal society without fear or favour.

-Aggregate and articulate the needs of every NAOSSITES by providing a listening ear.

-To ensure transparency and accountability at all times.

-To take adequate steps towards REJUVENATING through carefully thought plans and programs for the ASSOCIATION.

-Bridge the gap between local chapter and the National Body.

While our manifesto detailing our plan of action will be made public soon, permit me to emphasize that we are running not because of personal and self-aggrandizement rather we are running because we want to REJUVENATE NAOSS collectively.

Conclusively, having experienced first-hand the challenges and numerous huddles being faced as a member of this noble society. I put myself forward as one who is ready to rejuvenate our dear ASSOCIATION.

Apropos of the above, I MARY OGUNGA hereby in all sense of humility seek for your collective support, and request that we embark on this historical journey together towards the NAOSS OF OUR DREAMS!

God bless the National Association of Ondo State Students!

God bless the Sunshine State!

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT AND THEIR LACKADAISICAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS YOUTHS AND STUDENTS

Until the Control of the issue of Credit is restored  back to a Government Administration and recognized as its most Conspicuous and sacred Responsibility, all talks of the Sovereignty of Parliament and of Democracy is idle and Futile. We can't shy from the fact that State Government have an Absolute Sovereignty and when the Government failed to Comply with his Fundamental Duties in ensuring that Life and Properties of its Citizens is highly Saved. It will be regard as a Failed Government.

Ondo State Government have just proven to the entire Country that, they don't have any Feelings for the Lives of it's Citizens either at the State Level or outside. Recently a gruesome Killing occurred in Rukuba Jos North, Plateau State where some innocent souls mainly Numbered to 25 Religious Worshipper mainly Youths were Masarcre and very Gory. The ambushed which occured while the victims were coming from Bauchi where they join Other Muslims Religious Worshippers in Celebration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Birthday. Our source gathered that those Victims involved are Ondo State in Indigenes. In which many reactions engulfed from all nooks and crannies and this same killing eventually leads to a Curfew in the State in order to restore Peace and Order in the State.

On same Scenario, have eventually make some Higher Institutions to halt  ongoing Examinations in their various Campuses in the State.

Since Last week some States have been sending Government Officials down to Plateau State to evacuate all their  Indigenes back to their various States. Ondo State which was affected weren't moved with an inched, despite the Tension in the whole Country. No single Press Release was Published in any National Daily Newspaper talkless of Holding Brief Conference to kick against the Gruesome Killing. What a Shame to the Government.

Before putting this article up, our Source here in Jos have Gotten in Touch with some of the Principals Officers in Ondo State to demand why their Indigenes who are schooling in Plateau State have been neglected while other States have done Fast Response. Here are the Principal Officers who our Source get in touch with.

The Chief Press Secretary to Ondo State Government

Commissioner of Information Ondo State

Senior Special Assistant on Youths and Students Matters to The State Governor.

We all understood, that the Governor can never be in everywhere, that is the main reason whereby Government Functionaries have been appointed and represent Mr. Governor in different Areas depending on the Designation been given onto.

But, on this kind of Case, the Senior Special Assistant on Youths and Students Matters to Mr. Governor is been referred to. All possiblity of Evacuating those Students were not even concerned at all. I put a call through one of the Student Leader yesterday to know the state of condition and he confidently told me that all the students were Evacuated but the SSA on Youths and Students Matters Hon. Ogunyemi Muyiwa  Ojo Eyiyato was in Absential and he have stayed back in Ondo State. God a whole so called SSA on Youths and Students Matters was not present in the Evacuation Process and also the Students were even evacuated with Ogun State Indigenes with their Buses which means no provision was made for the Students from the State. This is so Embarrassing, Dissatisfactory and Disappointing from a whole State which was the main affected State and at that period abandoned it's Indigenes. A Oil Producing State for that Matter.

I Live and Based in Jos and my Place is not far from the reported scene. I know how Forebode and Dreading the State is.

This is a total Shame and Disappointed to the Entire State for them not to able to send Government Functionaries to Evacuate those Students. This really show how Callous and Wicked the State Government is Most especially the SSA on Youths and Students. We all see other State Government like Kogi, Ogun, Oyo and Ekiti how they respond in Quick action towards the Evacuation of their Own Students through their Own SSAs on Youths and Students.

May Almighty God Forgive you all.

I Challenge Ondo State Government to Prove to me that this Article is False by Uploading this same version of Evacuation by Ondo State Delegates in Plateau State.

Sanity is next close to Serenity.

Ondo State Government haven't done well and l guess that the Ondo Youths and Students demand an Unapologetic Press Release or possibly Brief Conference most especially from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Youths and Students Matters to Ondo State, Hon. Ogunyemi Muyiwa Ojo Eyiyato.

God Bless Ondo State!

God Bless Southwest!!

God Bless Nigeria!!!

NANS VS BOROFACE: ULTIMATUM IS STILL IN DIADEM, NANS

"The failure of our society start the day we choose not to questioned those in position of power."

Over the phase of year past, the only student advocate bodies fighting, agitating and crafting for better society accommodating Nigerian Student and their well being including welfarism  across diverse axis in Nigerian is NANS, this gave us sovereignty power to agitate and becon upon any personality which has resulted to a giant who can't be questioned in transparency, accountability and for credibility.

NANS is a pressure group that harbour Nigerian Student with her axis across every state in Nigeria, and we won't keep mute having someone of your manner as a representative of our district without having any reference, importancy and positive influenced to Nigerian Student, it's highly uncalled for.

Being a politicians with a normality to "Use and Dump" of youth won't have anything else to think than the fact that NANS JCC ONDO AXIS is being sponsored to tackled you or any manner you can term it, NANS is an independence body who have no iota of influenced from any other body personality on the basics of our dealings, and this demands we bring towards you is for the Nigerian Student and even that from your district.

In our demands, we agitate for 3 demands whuch includes;

1. Provision of Bursary across the Six Local Government in your district

2. Provision of Reasonable Empowerment across the district

3. Provision of Scholarship for Institution Based Student across the district

This demands of us is pioneered on your nonchalant attitude towards the Nigerian Student across your district in your years of service as Senator in the district you're representing, it's even a shame replying us that you've promised after 10years of being power all you could still mentioned as your achievement towards Student populance is this ill-promised of yours.

In all your years in service, has NANS ever required money of you, or can you analyzed any achievement you've made towards the Welfarism of Nigerian Student, you being full of biasment, sentimental towards your district people even have separate people you wished to allocate your promised bursary to as you reference in your reply towards our earlier article towards you, your judgmental statement which reads;

"Borofice has made provision for Bursary to the students AND LIST OF BENEFICIARIES is currently being compiled across local governments in the district"

This shows that you never have any concern for the welfarism of Nigerian Student if not for political career, such your personality did not worth being in position of authority and we will forever be a pressure unless our demands is heard, tend and recon to.

We Say No To Fake Promised After 10years Of Being In Power!!!!!

We Say No To Wheelbarrow Empowerment!!!!

NANS JCC ONDO Craft For Effectiveness Towards Student Welfarism

NANS Congratulates New EFCC Boss, Urges Him to Justify Appointment with Outstanding Performance

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone D, is delighted to pass on good wishes to the youngest officer ever appointed to head the nations anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

No doubt, your appointment was not unconnected to your fine antecedents, having been demonstrating adeptness and knowhow since you joined the services of the agency in 2004.

With your thoroughbred and having been fielded in many prosecutions of advance fee fraud, official corruption, bank fraud, money laundry, among others, and your international training and exposure, we are hopeful that you will clean the Augean stable.  Under your watch and leadership, we are very positive that there would not be rooms for religion, ethnic and political bigotries in the administration of the anti-graft agency.

We, therefore, urge you to substantiate your appointment with unprecedented and outstanding performances such that it can be reverberated across the length and breadth of the nation that youths remain the indispensable catalysts to achieving a great and united Nigeria as envisioned by the founding fathers.

Once again, on behalf of all Nigerian Students in South West, we saying a big  Congratulations and we can assure you that we are going to give you our full support as a young vibrant officer

Consider Vaccination of Students First, NANS Urges FG

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone D, received with delight, the new of the arrival of about 4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine into the country on Tuesday, march 2, 2021.

Meanwhile, as the vaccination campaign and administration in Nigeria begin, it is imperative to make a passionate plea to the Federal Government, on behalf of the entire Nigerian students, that the students should be considered first in the administration of the vaccine.

In particular, as the States Governors are warming up to receive their shares of the vaccine, NANS (Zone D), is requesting that the governors of the South/West should place premium on the students at all levels in the administration of the vaccine.

The need to start the vaccination with the students is imperative because Nigerian students constitute the largest assemblage among whom the virus can easily spread, thus, the vaccine must be administered on them first in order to contain the spread of the dreaded virus.

We are urging our governors in the South/West States, to put some compelling measures in place in our Primary Health Care centres, higher institutions and schools and other prospective designated centres to ensure that students are given priority in the administration of the vaccine.

While we are congratulating the government on the arrival of the vaccine, we want to pledge our support in terms of campaign for the vaccination which will help to contain the spread of the virus.

We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends."

The approach of Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu to the growth and development of Ondo state is quite innovative.

It is no more a new that Mr talk and do has started the second phase of his Administration in a  dynamic way.

To remember the labour of the legends who put their lives on the line to fight for multiculturalism; for a society where all lives matter, whether Jews or Pagans, black or white; a society where culture is respected and not brutalized.

This year has been an adventurous one, we are caught in the web of a pandemic, ASUU strike and the historical End SARS movement. Nigerian youths and students have suffered severely from these blows. Recall that the lockdown has kept students away from school for months and the ASUU strike has continued to top the sad development for Undergraduates.

Covid-19 brought forced social-distancing and hunger on us, as the lockdown grounded a lot of economic activities. The leadership of the National Association of Ondo State Students put it upon herself to support her members with food items during this moment. It was recorded that several students benefitted from this show of love targeted at Ondo state students in Akure environment. We ensured the distribution of food items to areas like FUTA, Ondo road, Ijoka, Oda road and FECA.

Furthermore, the Gubernatorial election in October saw us sensitizing the public, especially young people on the importance of participating in the electoral process, by voting candidates of their choice. We also discouraged political apathy and highlighted the danger attached. For this cause, the Association organized a ‘Peace walk’ and with the aid of placards, it passed the message of Peace and Participation to the Ondo people. In the same vein, the Association was not silent about the ‘Popular Police Brutality’ that littered the streets and eroded the media. It was indeed a sad phase for the country. The Association organized a campaign and in the spirit of solidarity, raised a voice against Police Brutality.

Sad to note also is that the unemployment rate among young people rose from 29.7% to 34.9% in the second quarter of this year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. These worrisome figures continue to emphasize the need to upskill our youths and ensure their economic independence. This is a course that we are set to chart in the next few months.

The National Association of Ondo State Students is launching a skill acquisition programme tagged

ONE NAOSSite, ONE SKILL. This project is targeted at empowering Ondo state students with relevant 21st-century digital skills. It is no news that the world is turning digital, we are in the future already.

More than 5,000 Ondo State students across Nigeria will benefit from this initiative. The courses include CopyWriting and Blogging, Graphic Design & Illustration, Forex / Cryptocurrencies, Digital and Social Media Marketing. Others include Retail Management Merchandising, Distribution and Marketing, Project and Product Management, Data Analysis Pivot Tables and Microsoft Excel, Programming and Assembly Language. We are excited to set on this course and are encouraging relevant stakeholders and partners to move with us on this journey.

With no doubt, the Association is persuaded that One NAOSSite One Skill empowerment initiative will prepare Ondo state students in secondary and tertiary institutions for the emerging digital economy, and raise a breed of problem solvers that would represent Ondo state and Nigeria in the world and lower the unemployment rate.

The Association would like to appeal to Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu to remember his promises concerning the payment of bursary, especially in a time like this where the country is just recovering from the effects of the pandemic. It is clear that bursary will relief students of Ondo state. We have waited for over eight months now and we call on the Governor to hearken to our pleas. We also call on the Ondo state government, to look into the payment of the West Africa Examination Council fee for Ondo State Public Schools to lift this burden off the shoulders of Sunshine boys and girls. As a dividend of democracy, let free education be free to the common man. We also call on the government to put infrastructures in place that will hasten the reopening of state-owned institutions. For if we are to lead the future, time must not be wasted in the present. We do hope that our pleas would hearkened to.

We also implore our Governor to consult with the Federal Government on resolving the impasse ongoing with the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The coalition of Students Union Presidents met in Ibadan recently for this purpose and issued an ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve this impasse and reopen Universities in the country. Our stand is simple and replicates the resolution of the meeting held in Ibadan. We call on the public to also request that our Government promptly resolves this deadlock for the sake of the future of this country.

Finally, as students of Ondo state, we have seen the worst and best of days, we have experienced history. 2020 has tested us on all sides, yet we are strong and unbroken.  We should hold-on, a better time will come. Let us be upright in all our conducts, remembering that we are the image of the State and we are the Future.

Long live NAOSS.

Long live Ondo state.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta.

ONDO 2020: SUNSHINE STUDENTS AND YOUTHS APPRECIATES AKEREDOLU ON THE REDUCTION OF AAUA SCHOOL FEES

''Leadership is the ability to set high standards ,refusing to tolerate mediocrity or poor performance''

It is no more a news that the executive governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Rotimi has reduced the school fee of Adekunle Ajasin University ,Akungba Akoko after several agitations by the Students body within and outside the state.

We cannot but appreciate His Excellency Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu who stood his ground to listen to the plea of Nigerian students despite several antagonizing words from the opposition who felt the reduction is Political.

The Students Body have engaged the government in the 3C'S of Aluta which is consultation ,consolidation and confrontation and  yet we were not able to get a positive result until Mr Babajide Akeredolu came on board to recommend a way out that attract constructive intellectual engagement which brought about a paper work that was presented to the Executive Governor through Babajide Akeredolu

The paper work was done by Sunshine students and Youths Stakeholders which contain the school fees of other state owned university in south west, the impact of the increment and the possible solutions to generate more IGR that would ease the burden on students while building a 21st century University.

''Delegate the right job to the right person at the right time ,and be ready to change quickly''

Babajide Akeredolu call for a constructive intellectual engagement and he requested for a paper work that would prove that there is a need to reduce the school fees of the state owned institution in Ondo state and this was done by the Sunshine Students and Youths Stakeholders.

The governor has assured that Osutech and Rugipo school fees would also be reduced but it must be in alignment with the governing council of the concerned institutions because the school fees was increased with their consent.

We want to appreciate His Excellency Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu for standing by his words. Moreso , we want to appreciate Mr Babajide Akeredolu for putting up an intellectual means to get the demand of the students across to his father.

It won't be completed if we do not acknowledge the effort of the National Association of Nigeria Student Zone D Coordinator, Joint Campus Committee Ondo Axis Chairman and the executives National Association of Ondo State Students President, Students Union presidents and other Stakeholders who has deem it fit to contribute to this struggle.

The sunshine students and Youths Stakeholders has adopted the philosophy which says ''Putting plans into action to yield positive result''

We hereby assure Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of our unflinching support to ensure that we take Ondo state to the next level.

The Sunshine Students and Youth Stakeholder was established with an ideological Mantra that represent the true interest of the Youth and students of the sunshine state.

It has been proven by the calibers of personalities who are members of the SSS.

The sunshine students and Youth cut across  both past and present Students and Youth leaders in the State and this was designed to ensure adequate representation at all levels.

The Sunshine Students and Youth Stalkholders under the leadership of the NANS National Zone D Coordinator Comrade Kowe Kalusa has taken a bold step to ensure that the interest of Nigerian Students is taken as the priority of the group. In the process of consultation which is one of the principles of leadership ,the Pentagon Movement Group (PMG) hosted the leaders of Sunshine students and Youth Stakeholders in an intellectual discussion which resulted to a request from the Sunshine Students and Youth Stakeholders that the Pentagon Movement Group (PMG) should help the SSS to achieve the biggest challenge facing the students of Ondo state which is the reduction of the school fees in Ondo state.

The state coordinator of PMG Mr Lulu Fawehinmi assured the SSS that the school fees of the tertiary institutions in Ondo state will be reduced and that it will be done in order to prove to students that a lot of agitations has been going underneath for the interest of the students.

The PMG Coordinator in person of Babajide Akeredolu donated a car through the office of the Director of mobilization ( Ilesanmi Ade-Ademola) to the Sunshine Students and Youth Stakeholders to aid the movement of this organisation and moreso an office to enhance intellectual engagement and this was presented by Mr Lulu Fawehinmi

The SSS appreciate the PMG for their interest in the reduction of the school fees in Ondo state which is the priority the SSS.

In thesame vein ,the Sunshine students and Youth Stakeholders appreciate PMG for the donation of a car and an office to this organisation.
We assure the PMG Mobiliser that we would be glad if our request is achieved which is the reduction in scholar of the Tertiary institutions in Ondo south and that we would use all the resources at our disposal for the betterment of Ondo.

Our sincere appreciation goes to the founder and National coordinator of  the Pentagon Movement Group (PMG) Mr Babajide Akeredolu for this kind gesture to the Sunshine Students and Youth Stakeholder. His leadership and intellectual prowess has paved way for our alignment for a greater Ondo State.

The infrastructural development executed by the Executive Governor of Ondo state Arakunrin Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu is overwhelming especially in the construction of road project in the state.

We must but keep on agitating for the welfare and interest of Sunshine Students/Youth across board as all hands must be on deck.

God bless Ondo state!
God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬 !
God bless all youths and students!
